Choosing a Biomass Boiler

What do I need to consider?

There are several things you need to consider when choosing a biomass boiler.

Space

You need to ensure you have enough space for the boiler, appropriate access for reloading and storage space for the fuel. Check the size of your existing boiler and compare it to the biomass one you are considering purchasing.

Maintenance

Boilers that use wood pellets are generally easier to look after and less messy as they do not produce as much ash as other types. Some also produce smoke or noise so you need to remember to check this before you purchase.

The frequency of the times you will have to refill your boiler will depend on several factors, including the size and model, what fuel is used, how well your house is insulated and the size of the property.

Fuel supply

Your choice of biomass boiler system should consider what fuel supply is available in your area. Research where you will buy your fuel from and the costs to see if you can afford it on a long term basis.
